Cox Communications Middle Georgia

In The Community

Cox Communications: A Community Investor
At Cox Communications, we’re proud to invest in the communities we serve. Our commitment to Middle Georgia isn’t just a slogan or a few words pulled from our vision statement, it’s something we believe in and act on each day. That’s why Cox donates over $1 million in cash and in-kind services to support important local charities each year. The majority of our assistance is earmarked for youth and education programs. Additional support is provided to aid critical economic development, diversity, health and human services, civic, cultural and environmental initiatives. Our employees also donate their most precious asset – their time – to volunteer at numerous worthy events. For this reason, Cox’s outreach program is more than just a commitment; it’s a way of life for our employees and our business.

Employee Volunteerism
Through the We Are Cox Employee Volunteer Program, Cox employees are eligible to take paid time-off to volunteer at Cox-sponsored events. And through Cox's Dollars for Doers program, all full-time employees may seek up to $500 in grants each year for the charities at which they actively serve. Since the program's inception in 2005, over $50,000 has been awarded to employees' charities of choice. To this end, Cox employees have donated thousands of volunteer hours to support important local schools and causes such as Habitat for Humanity, Feed the City, Rebuilding Macon,  March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Red Cross, Kingdom Impact, UCP, Make-A-Wish, Miracle League, Warner Robins Little Theatre, Golf for Kids, Next Level, Boy Scouts of Central GA, GA Khaos girls traveling softball team and many more.

Cox Good Books Reading Adventure:
A Community Partnership with Goodwill Industries of Middle GA

Our signature employee volunteer program, the Cox Good Books Reading Adventure, allows Cox employees the opportunity to teach Internet safety to the community's most valuable asset: our youth. Since its launch in 2006, over 1,000 Title 1 first graders have participated in this program, earning Cox the 2008 Business Partner of the Year Award, a national honor given to Cox by Goodwill Industries International.

Cox Charity Golf Classic
With the help of annual sponsors, the Cox Charity Golf Classic provides critical funding for Middle Georgia charities supporting youth and education. The tournament is planned and coordinated entirely by Cox employees, and a company-wide vote is held to select two charity recipients each year. Since its inception, the tournament has raised over $300,000 for local after-school clubs, in-school arts and science programs, and youth health and safety initiatives. In 2008, Cox presented checks totaling $40,000 to Crisis Line & Safe House and Camp Can Do. All proceeds raised at this year's tournament, to be held May 1, will benefit Jay's Hope Foundation and CASA of Houston County.
