Cox Communications offers On DEMAND access to new
Macon, ga – Cox Communications is pleased to announce that digital cable customers will have On DEMAND access to the new “We Are the World” 25th Anniversaryproduction that is debuting during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. All proceeds from purchasing the video will go to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The video will be made available now through March 15th.
The video, shot by Oscar-winning "Crash" director Paul Haggis, will be available to Cox Digital Cable customers for $2.99 via the On DEMAND menu. Customers can tune to channel 1, then choose the Movies on Demand category, then We are the World 25. Charges will appear on customers’ Cox bill and 100 percent of the video’s $2.99 price will be donated to the We Are the World Foundation. The foundation, formed by legendary producer Quincy Jones and co-writer of “We Are the World” Lionel Richie, among others, is committed to providing long-term assistance to the Haitian people through an organization that will be operated with full transparency and using state-of-the-art technology and star power.
“Cox is happy to use our On DEMAND technology to help raise money for Haitian relief efforts,” said Mike Dyer, Vice President & General Manager of Cox Communications. “Customers and employees have been asking how they can help since the devastating earthquake in January. With the On DEMAND offering of “We are the World 25,” we’re able to reach beyond our community and help those in need, simply by watching this historic video.”
Upon its initial release in 1985, the song changed forever the model of philanthropy and celebrity, raising over $63 million dollars for famine relief in Africa and becoming the first certified multi-platinum single. This year’s video features a dazzling array of talent, many of whom normally would not share a stage were it not for sharing the common cause of supporting the Haitian people. From Barbra Streisand to Lil Wayne, the Jonas Brothers to Tony Bennett, Celine Dion to Pink, the stars heeded the call of Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie to come together once again.
